Phones, tablets, notebooks: Numbers using mobile data surging, says Vodafone

Vodafone says almost 70 per cent of its customers are now using mobile data on their devices.

THE NUMBER OF people using smartphones and mobile data on the biggest mobile network in the country has increased, Vodafone has said.

The telecommunications company released its financial results for the third quarter today and said that almost 70 per cent of its customers are now using mobile data on their devices, including phones, tablets and notebooks.

The company says it is the market leader among mobile phone companies in Ireland with 2.1 million mobile customers, an increase of more than 10 per cent on the same time last year.

Vodafone made an overall profit of €21.4 billion worldwide in the months up to 30 September this year, which was boosted by a multi-billion tax credit.

The company says it is using some of the proceeds of its recent deal with Verizon – after it sold its US joint-venture stake to partner Verizon –  to improve network quality and speed access across Europe.

It plans to invest €8.2 billion to boost businesses in European and emerging markets.

Data is still far too expensive.

& 11 years after the launch of 3G, coverage & performance is still patchy.

Very true. Fair enough, I’m in the arse end of nowhere, but I’ve no 3g. Vodafone announced a revamp and expansion of their 3g network alongside the 4g rollout, but somehow I doubt that’ll ever come out here to Connemara…

I still remember my first phone, the Siemens c25. Built like a tank. I’d still have it if I hadn’t dropped it in the jacks at that party :-/

Vodafone and O2 data packages are a rip off… Selling high end smart phones with monthly packages that only have a few measly 100mb allowances… A top Samsung or iphone could chew that up in a few days…3 all the way…

3 are the single worst and most dispicable network I have ever dealt with. Shower of b*****. I paid to get off their network. Will never go back.

Vodafone Ireland has actually invested €500million to date in their network and has another €500million allocated for the next 2 years.
