Heavy rain and risk of flooding as Status Yellow warning continues overnight

Connacht and the midlands are at particular risk of heavy rain.

LAST UPDATE | 17 Aug 2020

A RAINY START to the week will continue overnight as a Status Yellow warning remains in effect for 14 counties overnight.Met Éireann said that heavy rain with a risk of localised flooding would continue throughout the evening.

Connacht and the midlands will experience the heaviest and most prolonged rain overnight, while clear spells and shattered showers will extend later from the south.

In Cork, flooding has been reported on a 2.6km section of Old Youghal Road.

The night will be warm, with lows of 12 to 15 degrees Celsius.

The Status Yellow rainfall warning for Munster, Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Wexford, Wicklow, Offaly and Galway noted that accumulations of 25 to 40mm may occur in places.

It came into effect at 2am and is in place until 7am tomorrow morning.

Tomorrow will continue mostly cloudy over the northern half of the country with further spells of rain that will gradually clear northwards in the afternoon and evening.

It’ll be brighter in the south with sunshine and showers, with highest temperatures of 18 to 22 degrees.

The rain is set to continue throughout the week with heavy showers possible in Munster and south Leinster on Wednesday.

Another band of rain will spread northwards over the country on Thursday, with temperatures remaining in the high teens or low twenties throughout.

@fergusob: Yup.. Live in Dublin but on a staycation near Murrisk in Mayo. The sun came out yesterday morning and it was sweltering. Croagh Patrick was in full view and looking beautiful. This morning… A different kettle of fish! No sign of Croagh Patrick and its drizzly and damp but not lashing… Yet!!

Ah sorry Logan didn’t mean to cause confusion. . We live in strange times and the canine population are becoming depressed with the situation.
